What is Plantar Fasciitis?
The plantar fascia is a fibrous band of connective tissue that originates from the heel bone and connects to the toes. It’s role is to act as a passive limitation to the over flattening of the foot.
What are the Signs and Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis?
+ Pain under your heel
+ Heel pain after long periods of resting or your first steps in the morning
+ Heel pain after exercise
What is the Treamtent of Plantar Fasciitis?
The Physiotherapist will educate the patient on activities that they will need to modify to help reduce the load and tension on the plantarfascia. The Physiotherapist will provide specific strengthening exercises to the gastrocnemius (calf) and small muscles of the foot and ankle. Finally, the Physiotherapist will try to restore normal foot biomechanics using taping, orthotics and stretching. The expecting recovery time-frame varies from several weeks to 2 years.
