What is a Lisfranc Injury?

The Lisfranc joint involves the bones and ligaments that connect the midfoot and forefoot. A twisting fall can break or shift these bones out of place. The Lisfranc complex is important in stabilising the arch with walking and running.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of a Lisfranc Injury?

+ Swelling of the midfoot

+ Pain in the foot with walking

+ Unable to raise onto toes (calf raise)

+ Tenderness over the second bone of the foot (2nd metatarsal)

What is the Treatment of a Lisfranc Injury?

It is important to determine the extent of the Lisfranc injury. Minor Lisfranc injuries can be managed in a cast or moonboot whereas severe injuries require surgical fixation. After surgery is performed the Physiotherapy will work on deficits in range of motion, strength and gait.
