Frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis refers to when the bands of tissues that sit around the shoulder stiffen up and form adhesions.
What are the Signs and Symptoms of Frozen Shoulder?
+ Pain in the shoulder with or without movement: This is often the first symptom and is found is known as the freezing stage.
+ Pain worse at night-time
+ Reduced strength in the shoulder: This can be attributed to pain
+ Restricted range of motion: This is often seen in the later stages and is known as the frozen stage.
What are the Treatment Options for Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder is not fully understood how or why the condition happens. Frozen shoulder typically lasts anywhere from 3 months, up unto 2 years. The current treatment involves multiple cortisone injections or hydrodilation from an Orthopaedic Surgeon as well as Physiotherapy. Physiotherapy treatment is aimed at maintaining range of motion and pain levels through exercise.
