What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition involving the median nerve being compressed as it runs through the wrist. This can be due to repetitive wrist motions or unknown reasons, a previous fracture of the wrist or unknown reasons.
What are the Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
+ Pain in the hand
+ Pins and needles in the thumb, index and middle finger
+ Loss of grip strength
What is the Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
The Physiotherapist will help guide you in what activities you can modify or should avoid helping reduce your symptoms. A night splint may be moulded to your wrist to help alleviate pressure on the median nerve. If this is unsuccessful then a carpal tunnel release performed by an Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon should be considered.
